Viral Hepatitis is an extremely important public health problem. It is often considered
as silent killer as 80 % of patients don’t know that they are harbouring viral infection and can
be detected only when complications like cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma develop. 28 th
July is globally celebrated as ‘World Hepatitis Day’ On this day throughout world programs
are conducted to create awareness about viral hepatitis. This year’s theme of world hepatitis
day was Bringing hepatitis care closer to you. To mark this day Department of Medicine
has undertaken 2 programs.
1.On 28 th July Hepatitis B and C screening camp was organised in Medicine OPD for
faculties and residents as well as non-teaching staff including sisters, attendants sweepers,
student sisters. 246 persons were screened for Hepatitis B and C
2.On 29 th Viral Hepatitis Awareness Program was undertaken for nursing staff and non-
teaching staff. Dr Tanuja Manohar gave lecture on viral hepatitis and emphasised on
importance of prevention and vaccination of viral hepatitis. About 80 persons attended
this program.
