In today’s era, even medical education is not only confined to classroom teaching. Newer methods are being incorporated for teaching learning in order to work towards a holistic development of a student. Keeping this in mind IQAC, NKPSIMS & RC and LMH organized a scientific Model Making Competition on 25th and 26th Jan 22.
Invigorated, stimulated and motivated budding specialists of NKPSIMS & RC and LMH prepared different models with great enthusiasm and excitement for this competition. It was delightful to watch the post graduate and under graduate students explaining their models which taught us that innovation and creativity is a never ending phenomenon. The models included Fetal circulation, EEG machine, Exchange transfusion, Anesthesia blocks, Skinner’s model, Stepwise Pelvic Devascularization, Surfactant therapy model, Phases of hair growth, etc.
The event commenced with the inauguration on 25th Jan 22 at the hands of Hon. Dean Dr. Kajal Mitra. He was overwhelmed by the models and commented that few of them were worth applying for patenting. The judges were Dr. Meenakshi Girish, Prof. & HOD, AIIMS and Dr Abhinav Deshpande, Consultant Oncosurgeon, NCI and also an alumnus of NKPSIMS & RC and LMH.
The prize distribution was held on 26th Jan 22 at the hands of Dr Ashish Deshmukh, Hon. Working Chairman, VSPM AHE. He suggested to work towards making these models helpful to the patients and also appreciated the efforts made by the team in organizing the event. The first prize was won by Dr Kaushik Marathe, Dr Adil Akbani and Dr Akshay Chhajed of General Medicine and guided by Dr Nilima Humne and Dr Shilpa Kuthe, for the model of Hemodialysis unit. The second prize was won by Dr Shivani Sahu, from department of General Surgery and guided by Dr Mahendra Chauhan, for the model of Laproscopy Endotrainer. Consolation prize was won by Miss Nandini Karwade, a student of 1st MBBS. She was guided by Dr Dipali Onkar, Prof & HOD, Anatomy dept., for the model of Anatomy of Larynx. Department of Anaesthesiology won the prize for maximum entries.
This competition imbibed creativity in the students and made them future-ready to be life- long learners.
Dr Mohana Majumdar, Director IQAC and Dr Arti Kasulkar & Dr Trupti Dongre, NAAC coordinators, worked hard to make this competition a grand success.
