Subject: Report of CME on “Update on cochlear implant” & Hearing Screening Camp.
Respected Sir,
The department of otorhinolaryngology at NKP Salve Institute of medical sciences and research center and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Nagpur has successfully organized a CME on “update on the cochlear implant (CI) program” on 20th of December 2022. This CME was aimed at sensitisation and awareness program. Various departments like Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Radiology, clinical psychology, along with ENT surgeons, attended this CME. It commenced with an inaugural function and traditional lighting of the lamp ceremony.
Welcome address was delivered by Dr Vivek Harkare, Professor and Head of the department of ENT. Dr Mohana Majumdar, the Director of IQAC appreciated the efforts of ENT department at NKPSIMS for having organised this CME. Dr Nitin Deosthale, Vice Dean (clinical) and Medical Superintendent told that both ADIP and RBSK schemes were in the pipeline. Dean Dr Kajal Mitra congratulated team ENT and wished them good luck.
Dr Girish Nanoti, Professor and Head of department of Pediatrics, Dr Sushil Gawande, Professor and Head of department of Psychiatry and Dr Phatak, Professor, department of Radiology were the chairpersons of the CME. Dr V. Harkare gave a brief overview for CI. Dr Sonali Khadakkar, Assistant Professor (ENT), discussed in detail about the candidates for CI and schemes for CI program. Dr Kanchan Dhote, Assistant professor (ENT), explained the surgical management of cochlear implantation. Lastly, Ms.Neelu Somani, the implant audiologist highlighted the importance of rehabilitation of CI patients after surgery. Dr Disha Methwani, Assistant Professor (ENT) proposed the vote of thanks. The event was conducted by Dr Kiran Kulsange and Dr Priyanka Kamble, faculty members from ENT. The event was attended in large numbers by residents and faculties from various departments.
This CME was followed by a 3 days free hearing assessment camp on 21st, 22nd and 23rd December, for children, elderly patients and staff of the hospital in ENT OPD, from 9am to 4pm. All necessary tests for Hearing Assessment will be done and appropriate treatment will be given to all those patients attending the camp.
