Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics and Basic Life Support in Obstetrics Workshop
Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology had organized American Academy of family Physician Recognised Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO) and Basic Life Support in Obstetrics (BLSO) courses workshop from 30 th November 2022 to 3 rd December 2022 on 30 th November 2022 various lectures were delivered for the ALSO Provider Course by Faculties from 9 am to 5 pm. on 1 st December 2022, ALSO Provider course hands-on workshop was conducted. Dr .Savita Somalwar welcomed all the participants and gave overview of the course. “Safety in Maternity care” lecture was delivered first and then the participants were divided into four groups for workshops. Dr Savita Somalwar , Dr Sheela Jain , Dr Kanchan Dwidmuthe, Dr Amrita Singh were the faculties for the different workstations during workshop.
After Workstations Lecture on “Maternal Resuscitation” was delivered by Dr Kanchan Dwidmuthe ,It was followed by hands-on practice on Manikins for Maternal Resuscitation workstation . After Lunch Dr Sheela Jain & Dr Amrita Singh conducted interactive case discussion on Labour Dystocia & Hypertensive disorder of pregnancy respectively. Participants were evaluated in group tests. There were 14 Participants which included third year Residents and Consultants of Obstetrics and Gynecology .. Dr. Savita Somalwar concluded the workshop with a note that all participants should practice on manikins ,so that Obstetric emergencies will be managed effectively . Certificates were awarded to all participants. All the participants appreciated the workshop.
On 2 nd December 2022, ALSO Instructor course workshop was conducted. Dr.Anuja Bhalerao, Professor and Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology inaugurated the workshop. She stressed the importance of conducting these workshops which are beneficial to manage obstetric emergencies. Dr. Prachi Dixit, Dr.Snehal Naphade and Dr. Sharvari Lothe were participants for the workshop. After the overview of the course, videos on Maternal rescucitation,
Effective feedback and Group test were shown to the participants. It was followed by Group tests for the participants. The session concluded after distribution of certificates.
On 3 rd December 2022, Basic Life Support in Obstetrics (BLSO) course workshop was organized for the first year residents in Obstetrics and Gynecology and MSc. Nursing students. There were 15 participants. Dr.Nikita Vijay welcomed the participants and gave overview of the course. Pretest was taken for all participants .Video demonstration of Normal Labor was shown to all the participants. Then participants were divided into groups for various workstations. Dr Prachi Dixit, Dr Snehal Naphade and Dr Sharvari Lothe were instructors for the workshop. They were supervised by Dr Nikita Vijay, Dr Prajkta Junewar, Dr Rohini Bhoyar, Dr Sheela Jain, Dr Kanchan Dwidmuthe and Dr Savita Somalwar. Dr Prachi Dixit delivered a lecture on’ Maternal Resuscitation’. Dr Prajakta
Junewar deliberated on current status of Maternal Mortality in India and Maharashtra. Dr. Snehal Naphade and Dr Sharvari Lothe conducted interactive case discussion on Hypertensive Disorders in Pregnancy and Preterm Labor respectively. It was followed by Group test evaluation of all participants. The program concluded with Post-test and Certificate distribution. Dr Sajjni Thomas, Course Director & Advisory Faculty of AAFP from United States was Observer for the workshops from United States on Virtual Platform.
