Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology organized American Academy of
family Physicians (AAFP) recognized Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO)
course on 20 th September 2024 from 8:30am to 5pm. The mission of the ALSO
course is strongly focused on patient safety. Various lectures were delivered by
faculties from Obstetrics & Gynecology Department. The full day workshop
included Hands on practice on Manikins and mnemonic based skills training.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Vilas Thombare, Vice Dean Academics,
Dr. Anuja Bhalerao, Prof & Head – Dept. of ObGy, Dr. Sulabha Joshi and Dr.
Anjali Kawthalkar. Dr. Sheela Jain welcomed all the participants and delivered
the first lecture on ‘Safety in Pregnancy Care’. The participants were divided
into 4 groups. The faculties for workstations (Emergent Breech delivery
Shoulder Dystocia, Assisted Vaginal Delivery and PPH) were Dr. Sheela Jain, Dr.
Sulabha Joshi, Dr. Anjali Kawthalkar, Dr. Prajakta Junewar and Dr. Rohini
Bhoyar, Dr. Sulabha Joshi delivered a Lecture on ‘Maternal Resuscitation’
which was followed by Manikins based Hands – on practice for Maternal
Resuscitation for all the participants. After this there were interactive case
discussions on Labour Dystocia by Dr. Anjali Kawthalkar and Hypertensive
Disorder in pregnancy by Dr. Rohini Bhoyar. The participants were evaluated at
all workstations and in group tests. There were 12 participants which included
2 nd year residents and one Emergency Medicine physician – Dr. Anil Mane –
Head of Trauma and emergency care from Pravara Medical College, Loni. The
workshop was highly appreciated.
