World AIDS Day Celebration 2021

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Digdoh Hills, Nagpur had organized ‘‘World AIDS Day Celebration 2021’’ program on 1st and 2nd December 2021.

The estimated number of people living with HIV/AIDS in year 2020, worldwide are nearly 37 millions. Thus, HIV remains a major public health issue worldwide even today. In an effort to create awareness and sensitize Health Care Workers at Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, the department of OBGY had conducted two days educational and awareness program for postgraduate, undergraduate students, nursing staff, technicians and attendants.

Under the able guidance of Dr. Sulabha Joshi and Dr. Anuja Bhalerao ( Professor and Head, Dept of OBGY), the program was well organized by Dr. Savita Somalwar and well coordinated by Dr. Prajakta Junewar and Dr. Roshni Rathi.

The program started on 1st December with inauguration and key note addressed by Vice Dean Dr. Vilas Thombre followed by Interdepartmental Educational Activity for PG and UG students considering their role as frontline health care workers. The session included expert talk on ‘Introduction, Routes of transmission and diagnosis’ by Dr. Umesh Hasani (Assistant Professor, Microbiology) , ‘HIV in Pregnancy’ by Dr. Priyanka Thakur (OBGY), ‘Newborn care’ by Dr. Laxmi Menon (Paediatrics), ‘Post exposure Prophylaxis’ by Dr. Kaushik Marathe (Medicine). The first day session concluded by ‘ICTC Counselling’ by Mrs. Yamini Landge.

The second day session started with talk on ‘Waste Disposal and Universal precautions’ by Dr. Neena Nagdeo (HOD Microbiology) followed by Information on working of ICTC Department at LMH Nagpur by ICTC Counsellor.

The earnest and enthusiastic participation of UG, PG students, nursing staff, technicians and attendants lined upto the mission of the program. The participation of 93 delegates for this two days workshop itself marks the success of the program.
