The Research Cell of N. K. P. Salve Institute of Medical Sciences &Lata Mangeshkar Hospital Nagpur organized an online guest lecture on “Importance and need for Intellectual Property Rights (Patenting)” by Dr Kumarsh Krishnamoorthy, Senior Consultant, Kumaresh ENT Hospital, Partner, AUM Medtech, Chennai and Mentor for Health Technology at the Atal Innovation center of IISER (Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research), Pune on 6^th April 2021. Overall 42 teaching staff members participated in this interactive session. Dr Kumaresh, who is an innovator and patent holder briefed about various methods of safeguarding Intellectual property like trademarks, copyrights, branding and patenting. He also described the process of patenting, legal issues related to patents and the journey from development to commercialization of the medical devices. Dr Yamini Pusdekar, Asst. Professor, Department of Community Medicine, coordinated the program and explained the need for IPR and patenting in Medicine in view of the fast paced developments in the Medical and Surgical fields. She also expressed gratitude towards Dr Kumareshand and all the participants for actively participating in the session.
