Installation Ceremony :

The Installation Ceremony of Nrupal Dande as President SWA 16-17 and his team, was held on 3/9/16 at the hands of Dr (Capt.) Ritu Biyani, a cancer survivor and an adventurer from Pune. Shri Ranjeet Deshmukh (Chairman VSPMAHE) and Dr Kajal Mitra, Dean NKPSIMS were the guests of honour. Dr Mohana majumdar was installed as the chairperson along with the teacher incharges including Dr Meenakshi Girish ( Co Chairperson), Dr S Chari, Dr A Wilkinson, Dr A Deoke and Dr A Narde.The students with Honors and those who had undertaken ICMR as well as NKPSTS research projects were fecilitated at the hands of Dr Kajal Mitra. “Reflections”, the journal of MET was also released at the hands of the chief guest.

The Student Welfare Association of NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences held a graduation ceremony for the MBBS students on 2nd September 2016. 203 students proudly received their certificates in the presence of their parents, friends, Heads of various departments, teachers and dignitaries. The chief guest Dr Shakuntala Chhabra, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology MGIMS Sewagram, Guests of Honor Shri Sudhir Mungantiwar, Minister of finance, Planning and Forest State of Maharashtra, and Dr Madan Kapre,Director Neeti clinics, Nagpur, Dean Dr Kajal Mitra and Vice Dean Dr Vilas Thombre gave away the graduation Certificates, following which the students took Hippocratic oath. Chairman outstanding students of the batch for academics over their MBBS course to- Kartik patil (11 distinctions),

Neelgandha Joshi (6 distinctions), Madhuri Jhanwar (6 distinctions), and for all rounder performance including extracurricular activities to Deya Ghosh, Payal Katre and Rohan Roy.

The SWA students, teachers and Volunteers worked hard to organize the program.

The SWA celebrated Teachers’ Day on 8/9/16 with great enthusiasm. Dr Kajal Mitra, Dean NKPSIMS was the chief guest of the function. Dr V Harkare & Dr S Gade spoke about their favorite teachers. Various fun games were conducted by the students and the teachers participated with zeal

A team of 54 students from our college belonging to 2015 batch attended and participated in various events organized during Pulse 2016 by AIIMS, Delhi. Dr Anagaha Sahastrabudhe and Dr Manju Chandankhede accompanied the students as Teacher Incharges.

An Intercollegiate debate competition in memory of Late Shri Arvindbabu Deshmukh, Father of Shri Ranjeet deshmukh (Chairman VSPMAHE) was organized by the students’ welfare association (SWA) of NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences& Lata Mangeshkar Hospital on 19th September, 2016. A total of 9 colleges participated including 4 health institutes of VSPMAHE, DMIMS(Sawangi), IGGMC, GDC & Kalmegh MC (Nagpur). Chairman, VSPMAHE Shri Ranjeet Deshmukh was the Chief Guest. Dean, NKPSIMS & LMH Dr Kajal Mitra briefed about the conception and materialization of the debate competition. Dr Nirmal Nath, senior professor of Biochemistry and Dr Satish Sule, senior Ophthalmologist were the judges. The topic of the Debate was ‘Professionalism and ethics cannot be taught through medical curriculum’. VSPM Physiotherapy won the best team award. Anuradha Puniyani (VSPM Physiotherapy) and Sangya Malik (NKPSIMS & LMH) were the winners, for and against the motion, respectively. Merin Thariyan (Kalmegh, MC) and jayshree Kannan (VSPM Dental)were the 1st runner up, for and against the motion, respectively. Mahesh Hakke (IGGMC) and Alveera Khan (IGGMC) were the second runners up,for and against the motion, respectively. Anubhav Dubey was the moderator and Afreen Syed and Niyati Bakhtar were the masters of ceremony. Nrupal Dande, President SWA proposed vote of thanks. All the members of Team, SWA 16-17 worked hard towards the success of the program.

The SWA 16-17 helped in organizing the Anti ragging painting competition which was organized on 29/9/16. The competition was followed by the Deans address to batch 2016. A skit on anti ragging was also performed by the seniors under the guidance of Team SWA.

Fresher’s Debate was held on 17/10/16. The topic of debate was “One year of service in armed forces should be made compulsory before graduation to maintain discipline amongst students”. There were 5 participants in each team. Jaee patil was the winner ‘For’ the motion and Niharika Saraf was the winner ‘Against’ the motion.

Fresher’s sports was held on 17/10/16. Outdoor games were: Cricket and Football. Indoor games were: Carrom, Chess & Table tennis.

Fresher’s ice breaking was held on 18/10/16. There was a Tug of war competition between 2015 and 2016 batches. Interactive games were played between seniors and juniors.

The selfie clicked in that event won the Honda selfie contest and was published in The Hitavada.

It was held on 19/10/16. Dr Samir Jahgirdar and Dr Shantanu Mukherji were the judges. Paresh Nechwani was Mr Fresher and Divya Agrawal was Miss Fresher. Sahil Ingle was Mr Fresher, runner up and Aditi Modak was Miss Fresher, runner up.

A very noble act was undertaken by the SWA students during the week of Joy of Giving (2-8th October). They collected clothes, books, toys and food, during that week and donated it to an Orphanage run by Mr Ram Ingole where he primarily educates the needy children.

The Students’ Welfare Association (SWA) 2016-17, NKPSIMS & Lata Mangeshkar Hospital organized a Swacchata Abhiyan on Saturday, 19th November 2016. Nrupal Dande, President SWA presented a welcome speech. Social & outreach activity Incharge, SWA, Dr A Deoke explained the directives of MUHS for conducting the Swacchata Abhiyan. Dean, NKPSIMS & LMH, Dr Kajal Mitra explained the importance of cleanliness for avoiding various diseases. The highlight of the program was the felicitation of the seniormost sweepers of the institute by Dr Kajal Mitra along with a “Jaadu ki Jhappi”. This was followed by an awareness walk by the students and sweepers of the institute, led by Dr Kajal Mitra, Dr Suresh Chari, Dr Aniruddha Deoke and Dr Mohana Majumdar. The area around the hostels was cleaned by the staff and students. Team SWA worked hard towards the success of the program.

A very successful Zumba workshop was organized and conducted from 20/11/16 to 22/11/16 in association with “Fitness press” in Matoshree hall. More than 150 participants enjoyed this workshop. Various fitness competitions like skipping, push-ups, hoola-hoop etc made this evening more entertaining and fun filled.

On 23rd December, on the occasion of the amphitheatre, the SWA organised an entertaining dance performance for the dignitaries. Chairman, VSPM, Shri Ranjeet Ji Deshmukh and batchmates from Manipal university were present during the program along with Secretary VSPM, Dr Amol Deshmukh.

SWA organized the annual Saraswati Pooja on the occasion of Basant Panchami on 1st of February at the Central Library. The Pooja was conducted in the presence of our Honarable Dean, Teachers, Students as well as the non-teaching staff. The decoration,pooja and Bhog distribution was entirely managed by the students. Mahaprasad was distributed to all including patients.

SWA, on the 5th of February 2017, conducted a wall painting competition in the pediatric ward of LMH, Buldi. This was done for the paediatric patients, with the support of MS, Dr Harsh Deshmukh and COO, Mr Sanjay Jog. Nishi Nagaria, Nidhi Pathak and Pragya Singh won the first prize.

On 17th February, for the first time in history of NKPSIMS, SWA launched a mobile application, named SWANK. This is the first mobile application from Maharashtra by student’s council of a medical college. The app had regular updates, notifications and images of all events of JOSH, the annual social gathering

This started on the 18th of February 2017. Various outdoor and indoor (including online) games were conducted including basketball, Athletics, Swimming, chess and Carrom. They played with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship

JOSH 2k17 was inaugurated on 23rd of February. An inaugural rally was held which started from the Dean’s Porch and moved till the arts exhibition. This rally was headed by Dean, Dr Kajal Mitra, Founder Secretary of VSPM, Bhau Saheb and Chairperson SWA, Dr Mohana Majumdar. This rally had involved a huge lot of students and teachers

The arts exhibition was in collaboration with a fete (Fiesta). It not just had a number of masterpieces but also had music and food stalls of a variety of cuisines.

This was held on 24/02/17. Students as well as teachers participated in various theme rounds like Ethnic, Bollywood, Western, etc.



For the first time in history of NKPSIMS, a TV artist gave a live performance during JOSH. Master Yogesh Sharma, A super Dancer finalist from Sony TV was the guest artist. He set the stage on fire by his performance.

Was organized on the 25th of February, where students grooved on all kinds of tunes played by DJ Month. It was a memorable evening for all the students.

An intercollegiate personality contest was held in NKPSIMS. Students from various colleges of Nagpur and vidharba participated and displayed a vibrant variety of talents. Mr Paresh Nichwani from NKPSIMS was Mr Persona and Ms Deevanshi Rathode from JNMC was Ms Persona. Mr Kushagra Mathur and Ms Prachi Kothari were the runner ups.

This was held on 27/02/17. Students and teachers sang melodious numbers and created a wonderful atmosphere in Matoshree auditorium.

This teacher and student inter-batch debate was held on 28th February. The topic was ‘Institution of Marriage is dying a slow death’.



Was organised on 28th February, where not just students but also teachers, PGs and interns showed their dancing talents. 2015 Batch won the Inter Batch Competition. Dr Aarzo Meghrajani was 1st and Dr Abhishek Mankar was 2nd in solo. Deepak Kumar and Urvashi Jain took 1st prize for duet.

On 1st of March, JOSH 2k17 came to an end. It was the SWA students, with the guidance of teachers that made JOSH 2k17 one of the most successful gathering in the history of NKPSIMS. The prizes were distributed by the hands of our Dean, in the presence of Dr K Venkytatesham, Commissioner of police, Nagpur & Shri Ranjeetbabu Deshmukh, Chairman, VSPM. Mr Mehdi Parekh was awarded Mr NKP and Ms Devashree Nikose was titled Ms NKP. Mr Rishabh Grover and Ms Mugdha Mozarkar were Mr and Ms JOSH, respectively.

The students of NKPSIMS excelled in the state level competiton by Maaharshtra University of Health Sciences, Spandex, from 2nd to 4th March, held in Nagpur. Mr Yogesh Raut and Ms Pragya Singh bagged the first prize in rangoli competition and Clay modelling respectively. Third prize winners were Ms Devyani Wanjari (On spot painting), Ms Rucha Ridhorkar (Elocution) and Pushkar Bhai (Flute Recital). A team of students also took a lead in Lezim presentation at the start of organ donation rally on the first day. The college also set up the emergency medical services facility at the venue. They were guided by Dean Dr Kajal Mitra, teachers Dr Suresh Chari, Dr Anne Wilkinson, Dr Anniruddha Deoke, Dr Meenakshi Girish, Dr Madhur Gupta, Dr Shubhada Gade, Dr Rajesh Dehankar, Dr Anagha Sahastrabuddhe and Dr Arti Narade. The SWA played an active role in encouraging the participants.

Under the guidance of Dr Mohana Majumdar, the SWA students participated in an intercollegiate dance competition which was held on 12th March at Vasantrao Deshpande Hall and was organized by IMA, Nagpur. NKPSIMS was awarded a special appreciation prize. The theme was Gujrati Folk Dance, choreographed by Dr Abhishek Mankar.

It was our chairman sirs wish to start a movie club, right here at NKPSIMS. The SWA with all pleasure inaugurated a Movie Club and named it “The Chill Pill”, on 13th April. The first movie that was shown was “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobaara”. Not just movies, but also the semifinals and Final of ICC world Championship (Cricket) were screened. We received a huge audience and the event went smoothly. We aim to screen a movie every month.

The SWA took an initiative to revive the wall mirror in front of the central library. It is under 4 Headings, viz Facebook, Pintrest, Instagram and Snapchat. Various paintings, literary work and photos taken by students are displayed in the wall mirror.

On the 6th of July, the SWA organized a tree plantation program in the campus, at the volleyball ground periphery. A total number of 40 saplings of various trees like Gulmohar and neem were planted. Dean, Dr Kajal Mitra was the chief guest for the function. Mr Sanjay Jog, COO helped us co-ordinate and organize the event. Our institute Gardner Shri Baplande supervised the digging of pits at the site of tree plantation. He along with his team and the students will continue the process of planting more saplings in the campus all around the year.
