1 st Cochlear Implant Surgery at
Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Digdoh Hills, Nagpur.

N.K.P Salve Institute of Medical Science & Research Centre and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital proudly announces the launch of its Cochlear Implant Surgery program by performing 1st Cochlear Implant on a baby of age less than 2 years. This marks a significant milestone in commitment to provide world class care to babies with profound hearing loss by birth and give them a chance to hear and improve their overall quality of life. Our Hospital is equipped with the latest surgical tools. This Cochlear Implant program is started under Rastriya Bal Swasthya Karyakrame (RBSK) scheme and will be continued under RBSK and Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana; a Government initiative. Dr. Ashishrao Deshmukh, working chairman VSPM & AHE had imbibed this dream long back but it saw the light of the day on the occasion of death anniversary of his grandfather Shri Arvindbabu Deshmukh. He handed over the Cochlear Implant kit to baby’s parents. Dr. Sajal Mitra congratulated each and every member of the team.Vice-Dean and Medical Superintendent Dr.Nitin Deosthale played a major role to start the program under R.B.S.K. and was instrumental in providing all this advanced technology. This program involves a Team approach. 1st Cochlear Implant Surgery was mentored by Professor Dr. Jeevan Vedi, HOD, Department of ENT, IGGMC, Nagpur. Department of ENT of our Institute led by Dr. Vivek Harkare, Prof & HOD, Dr. Kanchan Dhote, Dr. Disha Methwani, Dr. Kiran kulsange, Dr. Sonali Khadakkar, Dr. Dr. Shruti Jagtap and all Junior Resident worked hard to ensure successful surgery and Postoperative care. Team of Anaesthetists, Dr. Anjali Bhure, HOD, Department of Anaesthesia, Dr. Pramanik, Dr. Rachana Naitam, Dr. Devashree Ganu played a vital role in preoperative and intra-operative support. Paediatric Department led by Dr. Nanoti, Dr. Pazare and Dr. Himanshu Dua, had an important role in preoperative work-up and patient care. Nursing staff of Operation Theatre & ward also played a pivotal role. Our highly skilled Audiologist and Speech Therapist Dr. Neelu somani looked after preoperative audiological work-up of child and will be looking after of postoperative auditory and speech training. Dr. Fulare, Deputy Medical Superintendent, Dr. Mayank Gadkari and Dr. Manisha Chaudhari, Administrative Office of Lata Mangeshkar Hospital provided full logistic support to start this programme.
