ACTIVITIES OF MEDICAL EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY UNIT 2021

REPORT OF PANEL DISCUSSION HELD ON 5TH MARCH 2021:

1.COVID-19 is a virus which has spread quickly to many countries. Scientists and researchers have managed to produce vaccines to protect against COVID-19. Misinformation and myths have been spreading fast regarding the vaccine and hence to sensitise the students an online panel discussion using Microsoft Team was organized on : Covid Vaccine “Myths and Challenges” for first year MBBS students 2020 Batch as a part of foundation course.

The panellist were Dr. Ajeet Saoji, Professor and Head Community Medicine;  Dr. Sunanda Chaoji, Associate Professor General Medicine; Dr. Umesh Hassani, Assistant Professor Microbiology respectively. The session was moderated by Dr. Kalpana Date, Associate Professor Department of Microbiology.  Queries regarding types of vaccines, their mechanism of action, efficacy of vaccines, side effects and herd immunity were answered. Coordinator of the event was Dr. Manju Chandankhede from Biochemistry Department.

Report of Guest Lecture

Topic:  “Strategies to monitor and enhance student learning”

Medical Education Technology Unit of N. K. P. Salve Institute of Medical Sciences & RC and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital Nagpur organized an online guest lecture on “Strategies to monitor and enhance students learning” by Dr Latha Ravichandran, Associate Dean Education and Professor of Pediatrics, Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Centre Porur, Chennai 24th March 2021. 33 teaching staff members participated in this interactive session. Dr Latha briefed about various tools like logbooks and involving mentors of mentorship program to improve formative assessment, which can enhance student learning. Dr Suresh Chari, Director of MET discussed various ethical issues related to categorisation of the slow and advanced learners. Dr Sushil Gawande, coordinator of the program explained the need of psychological assessment of slow learners. He expressed gratitude towards Dr Latha Ravichandran and all the participants for actively participating in the session.

 

Report: Guest Lecture:

Dimensions and scope of mentoring at NKP SIMS & RC and LMH

NKP Salve institute of Medical Sciences is celebrating decade year Mentorship program in year 2021 under able leadership of Dean Dr. Kajal Mitra. Medical education technology unit of NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences organized guest lecture on “Dimensions and scope of mentoring at NKP” on google meet platform. Dr. Chetna K. Desai, FAIMER fellow, Prof and HOD dept of pharmacology, BJ medical college, Ahmedabad was the faculty for guest lecture. This was organized to motivate UG mentors of NKP SIMS to implement mentorship program in more robust way. Dr. Chetna K Desai beautifully navigated participants from history of mentorship to the present status and need of mentoring in medical colleges. She involved all participants and took their reflections by giving interactive exercises. She demonstrated how an effective mentorship program can run through different stages and how it can be implemented effectively in different format. She successfully convinced all mentors that though mentorship is meant to help mentee to give their best, it helps mentors to grow in their personality.

Total 48 medical faculties from NKP SIMS & other medical institute joined session. We got good feedback from all participants. The event was coordinated and conducted by Dr. Smita Pakhmode, UG Anubandh coordinator under the guidance of Dr. Chari. Director of MET & research and Dr. Madhur Gupta and Dr. Ann Wilkinson, Secretaries MEU.


Report of Online Session Topic:  “Class Apart-Personality Enhancement Program” The Medical Education & Technology Unit of N. K. P. Salve Institute of Medical Sciences & Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Nagpur organized two days online Personality Enhancement Program “Class Apart -2021”. The participants were addressed by Dr Suresh Chari, Director, IQAC, MET & Research Cell, NKP SIMS & RC and LMH, Nagpur on 3rd & 4th May 2021 on soft skills so as to bring in positive impact in their lives . Overall 57 MBBS students of 2019 batch participated in this interactive session.

Dr Arti Kasulkar, Associate Professor, Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology coordinated the program. She also expressed gratitude towards Dr Suresh Chari and all the participants for actively participating in the session.

    
Report of Online Workshop Express to Impress: A two day workshop on public speaking & presentation skill A two day workshop on public speaking & presentation skill for MBBS students – 2019 batch was organized by Medical Education & Technology Unit of N. K. P. Salve Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital, Nagpur on 11th May & 12th May 2021 under able leadership of Dean Dr. Kajal Mitra. The participation for the workshop was restricted to only 20. Dr. Suresh Chari, Director, IQAC, MET & Research Cell, NKP SIMS & RC and LMH, Nagpur was the faculty for the program. Although it’s always challenging to hold skill development workshop in the online mode, the faculty used a creative method of involvement. The participants were given assignments the previous day of day one, and the output sessions were given peer feedback as buddy responses. For day 2 situational assignments were given one day prior which were peer evaluated & faculty gave tips to each participant on content, audience analysis and style. The participants benefited a lot since as UG students they have to make research presentation and seminars. The event was coordinated by Dr Arti Kasulkar, MEU Member and Associate Professor, Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, Dr. Madhur Gupta and Dr. Anne Wilkinson, Secretaries MEU.

Undergraduate Cell

 Report of Parent Teacher Meet held for First MBBS students on 31st May 2021

 MET Unit and UG cell had organized a parent teacher meet from 11am to 12 noon on 31st May 2021 using the Microsoft Team platform.The meeting started with welcome by Dr Madhur Gupta, Professor and Head, Biochemistry & UG Cell Incharge.

Hon Dean Dr Kajal Mitra addressed the parents. He briefed them about the academic activities carried out by N. K. P Salve Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre going on since 26th Feb 2021. More than 325 online sessions which included either online, audio ppt, assignments, video links etc were conducted and uploaded for Ist year MBBS students. Teachers training program was also conducted by MET Unit to train all the teachers in using various online platforms. He also informed them that ANUBANDH program which is a student mentorship program was also held for the students on 1st March 2021. Total 148 parents and 12 teachers attended the meeting.

The session was followed by question and answer session in which answers to questions regarding hostel fees, mess fees, internal examination, practical / demonstration uploads were answered by Dr Deepali Onkar, Dr Sawane, Dr Madhur Gupta, Dr Saoji, Professor and Head of departments of Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry and Community Medicine respectively.

Dr Suresh Chari, Director Research & MET Unit briefed the parents and impressed the fact they could contact the UG Cell and college for any queries and difficulties. The meeting ended with vote of thanks.

 

Report of NMC Workshop

8th NMC Revised 3 days Basic Course Workshop

The Medical Education Technology Unit organized the 8th Revised Basic Course Workshop in Medical Education Technology on 22nd, 23rd & 24th Sept. 2021 for the faculty of NKP Salve Institute of Medical Science & Research Centre and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital. 23 faculties participated in the interactive workshop.

The MET Unit Faculty conducted all the sessions which were highly appreciated by the young and enthusiastic participants of the workshop. Dr. Sushama Thakre, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, Indira Gandhi Govt. Medical College, Nagpur was the NMC observer for the workshop.

The program was organized under the leadership of Dr. Kajal Mitra Dean NKP SIMS & RC and LMH, & Dr. Madhur Gupta MEU Coordinator, along with Dr. Anne Wilkinson secretary of MET.

 

 

 

Report of RAT Workshop

“Resident as Teacher” – MUHS Recognized Workshop

Medical Education Technology Units NKP Salve Institute of Medical Sciences & Research Centre and Lata Mangeshksr Hospital along with VSPM’s College of Physiotherapy jointly conducted a workshop titled “Residents as Teacher” for third year physiotherapy residents on 30th November & 1st December 2021.

30 students attended the workshop which was inaugurated by Dr. Kajal Mitra Dean NKP SIMS & RC and LMH & Dr. Manisha Deshpande Director VSPM’s College of Physiotherapy, Dr. Madhur Gupta Director MET Unit NKP SIMS & RC and LMH, Dr. Anne Wilkinson Secretary MET Unit NKP SIMS & RC and LMH & Dr. Y. Praveen , Coordinator of the program . The students interacted with the faculty & learnt the nuances of being a teacher.

Topic covered included process of learning, communication skills, Teaching learning Methods, Microteaching and Assessment.

Report of Academic Web series (for I MBBS Students)

MET Unit and UG cell organized a online academic web series for first MBBS students of 2020 batch. The topic was Diabetes Mellitus (17/12/2021) from 2pm-4pm using the Google meet platform.

The webinar started with introduction by Dr Madhur Gupta, Director & Chairperson MET Unit.

This was followed by inputs from Dr. Shital Maske Assistant Professor, Anatomy on Gross Anatomy and Histology of Pancreas. Next was a session by Dr. Tasneem Ansari Assistant Professor, Physiology on pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus followed by Dr. Dipali Wanjari, Assistant Professor, Biochemistry who spoke on Functions tests. Final session of the webinar was by Dr Meenal Kulkarni, Associate Professor, Community Medicine on Prevention and Control.

The question-answer session and vote of thanks was conducted by Dr Anne Wilkinson, Associate Professor, Pathology.

Total number of 101 students from I MBBS participated in this webinar.

The participants were given a pretest, posttest
and feedback of the program.
